Production Context.
Small island community: working in a close-knit environment required a trust-based and discreet documentary approach throughout.
Child protagonist: miking had to remain calm, light and non-intrusive so the process never weighed on the child at the center of the film.
Boat scene (video excerpt): the scene unfolded in a noisy boat environment, with a loud engine running close to the action. Only the child was wired, while the surrounding characters had to be covered by boom; the moment could not be stopped or controlled, so the work relied on constant attention, restraint and close collaboration with the cinematographer.
Live translation workflow: sound was sent to an off-set translator and recorded on a separate track, giving the director real-time access to meaning and the edit team a synced reference.
Remote Greek island shoot: backup recorder, spare microphones and other essentials were carried throughout, with no realistic nearby replacement option in case of failure when filming in Greece.
